9/6/12 First Day of School

Yesterday we went to Sunset Terrace to check out the school and meet Madeleine's teacher. She's assigned to Mrs. Cummings, and we're very pleased. Mrs. Cummings is VERY sweet, and reminds me a great deal of my beloved Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Michaelson, who gave me the Indian name of "blue sky" because my eyes are so blue. Great teachers make an impact, and I hope that Madeleine has fond memories of her very first teacher, like I do.

Today was her first day!! We started out with pictures in front of our "grow with me" tree that we planted this weekend. I saw an adorable idea on Pinterest where you take a picture of your little student on their first day, and they tell you what they want to be when they grow up. M wants to be... a puppy. Not someone who takes care of puppies, or someone who trains puppies, but an actual puppy. Or a kitty. Yesterday she wanted to be a mermaid. I'm trying to decide if she's moving up in the world or not.
Since Kindergarten is half day, and starts at 1:00, I let Madeleine choose a restaurant to go to for lunch. She wanted to go to Broadway Pizza, which is close and has a pizza buffet (so immediate service), and that sounded just perfect to me!
After lunch, it was off to school!
All her classmates gathered in the hallway. There are three kindergarten classes, and each has about 20 students.

After all had arrived, they were off!
Julia was very upset that we had to leave M at school, and was very excited when we told her that M would be home soon. She went right outside to wait for her on the step.
The bus came around the corner....
Pulled up and the doors opened...
And out came our girl! That's quite the big step.
She had a great day, and is excited about tomorrow.
Today was doubly exciting because it was the first night of dance class, too!
I
Seriously... how funny are her little poses? She's like a mini-model. And her legs look so long here! What a grown up girl we have! Now we really get in the swing of things. School each day, dance class each week. Such a fun time in our lives!
